I agree that Imogene was great in a way that Wilson, who can be such an extraordinary actress, is not in this role. But I did feel that she at least created a character that worked. I feared she would seem too down to earth, as you put it, but at least when I saw her, I thought she had a quiet zaniness that worked.

I hope the person to my right did not know how much I was disliking it. The person to my left did, but he knows me well. I guess when the whole first act went by without my laughing once, he knew.

Speaking more generally, I felt the production lacked any sense of the style of the writing and what makes it special. It felt like more of a betrayal of Comden and Green's work than an honest attempt to realize it in performance.
