And lest this be seen as offtopic, "Frankie and Johnny" was part of the 1944 folk song revue, SING OUT, SWEET LAND.

Though back in 1931, Ira gershwin referred to the song in Of Thee I Sing:

"Just as in the Frankie And Johnnie song,
He done her wrong.
He done her wrong."
