After missing a few performances last week I heard Kristin talk about suffering w/bronchitis.
Well she was back in tonight and I am happy to report not showing any signs of being sick. I felt that some lines were "talk" sung than I expected.
Yes,I saw the original w/both Madeline Kahn and Judy Kaye (both were terrific) I also saw Julia MacKenzie in London. I like the show and it needs to be played at a high energy break neck pace! Everyone needs to be up to the Farce....and I am sorry to say.....not in this production.
I missed the fuller orchestra sound (which I think the Actors Fund event had????)
The sets and costumes are terrific and of course under another Director the concept is different. So I won't complain about them.
I felt the show did not come to life until Kristin and Andy Karl's entrance. They were truly playing Farce! Michael McGrath and Mark Linn Baker didn't really hit their stride till Act 2......but who cares when you have Kristin playing "Choochi Face" w/Andy and making him play "doggy".....Oh what fun! Two comic talents mining comedy gold! Orfeh.....you are a lucky lady!
Kristin has been quoted as saying that playing Lili Garland is "a beast" because of the demands....Damn Right! But the real reason it's such a beast is because not everyone seems to be giving it their all.
There's something "crazy and daffy" about Mrs Primrose. She's not just an old lady...a child like feel that was missing.
The Porters were F*a*b*u*l*o*u*s!!! Warren Carlyle's TONY oversight is a real disappointment.
All in all, thanks to Kristin and Andy Karl this was a fun evening!
Crunch meeeeeeeeeeee!!! : )

Warren's TONY oversight was probably because they gave him one LAST year for steps he did not create ... - 2hrsOfJustPow 02:34 am EDT 05/06/15 |
