There were - what? - more than two dozen numbers in After Midnight? Nearly every single one a showstopper and plenty of non-tap dance, too. There were so many beautiful moments of movement in that show - what percentage of them were staged entirely by Carlyle I can't say - but (a). he was smart to hire not only great triple threats, but many dancers who were true specialists and could bring their authentic style and, apparently, steps to the table. (b). even if he only staged 80% of the evening, it was still a great accomplishment and, easily, the best choreography of the season.
