You are mistaken, Warren is an amazing tapper and has a very clear vision when creating his steps. All choreographers use assistants-it's part of the process not a crutch.
I've seen him do the steps himself--brilliantly.

What's your issue? He's talented and was overlooked for great work and that's a shame.

actors(dancers/singers) are NOT permitted to insert their own steps once a show is "frozen". Frozen for those who may not be aware is when the creative team stops making changes prior to the Opening.
Any variation, even slight, is noted by Production Stage Mangers and if the person continues to deviate what is recorded in the Stage Manager's book, they are warned and can be fined or fired....so these people are NOT improvising.

Tell that to Vanessa Redgrave.

Beyond that, I'm not really sure why you brought this up. No one was saying that the dancers were making up new steps after the opening. I think you misunderstood what 2hrsOfJustPow was saying.

Indeed I was misunderstood.

I was referencing the actual choreography created in REHEARSAL not implying that anything on Broadway is improvised.

And if all the steps in AFTER MIDNIGHT were Warren's why was there such a buzz about his not creating the steps. Including some actually rumbling from the cast members about not getting credit for their own work.

I'm sure Warren owns a pair of tap shoes - but the steps in AFTER MIDNIGHT didn't remotely look like anything else he's ever created.

And the porters in ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY are rather good - but the fuss about them is a bit overstated. They are four guys who tap well - executing decent (if unexceptional) tap choreography. There were better nominees this year than Warren. And thank heaven for that.
