Three new musicals opened before April 12, and they received a total of two nominations between them (Score and Orchestrations for The Last Ship, nothing for Honeymoon in Vegas or Holler If Ya Hear Me). I don't think it's likely that producers are going to start opening shows earlier if that trend continues. Interestingly, of the 10 new musicals this season, half of them didn't get any nominations at all. (Add Finding Neverland, Dr Zhivago, and It Shoulda Been You to the above list.) At least in recent years, it's rare for half of the musicals to be completely shut out, although this year had a fairly large number of critically drubbed musicals.
