"The songs that will be performed are Lady Liza, Please Don’t Marry Me, Shy, and There’s a Thing Called Love."

****************************

Well, didn't "(Please) Don't Marry Me" end up in FLOWER DRUM SONG? "Shy" ended up in ONCE UPON A MATTRESS? :-)

And where's "Say a Prayer for Me Tonight"? "

I could see "Say a Prayer..'' as she prepares for the ball. Better to have her just appear looking so regal.

Lady Liza? Sung by Higgins? When?

Was there ever a song or Mrs. Higgins? One admonishing Henry might have been fun.

And what about Higgins'"Come To The Ball?"

The article also falsely claims these songs were not cut until the show hit NYC. From what I know, My Fair Lady was frozen by the time it started previews in NYC.

True?

I'm guessing that the author of the article misunderstood what Dominic McHugh told him.

On the right side of the linked page, you can see the song list as it appeared in the playbill for the week-long New Haven run. On the left side is the Broadway song list. I don't feel right now like looking it up in McHugh's book, but, yes, the show was frozen before it hit New York. Major cuts were made before the show got to Boston, the second and final tryout city.

My Fair Lady's tryout tour took it to New Haven and then Philadelphia, at the Erlanger. It then went directly to New York, without a stop in Boston.

Unlike the other songs, "Come To The Ball" was never presumed lost, and has been recorded at least twice; once on John Yap's studio recording of MY FAIR LADY, and another time on the Lerner Lyrics & Lyricists recording.
