Bernadette at Boston Pops

Posted by: Duke1979 08:43 am EDT 05/07/15

Last night was the opener and Keith Lockhart's 20th anniversary as conductor. Bernadette Peters was the entire show after intermission. Opened with a video of Keith conducting the overture to Gypsy. Peters looked and sounded sublime. A heart stopping set including No One is Alone, Losing My Mind and Send in the Clowns. Can she really be 67? Absolutely magical. I believe she is performing at Tanglewood this summer. Go.

The opening night festivities of the 130th season included balloons, cupcakes, and an exquisite, towering cake. Peters definitely provided the sizzle, accompanied by pianist Marvin Laird and original Mousketeer Cubby O'Brien on drums. Music ranged from Williams to Rossini, Rodgers and Hammerstein to Sondheim, selections from the voluminous canon of Old Blue Eyes, and, of course, John Philip Sousa.

"Can she really be 67?"

Many of us have long believed Ms. Peters has made a pact with the devil. She is as beautiful today as she was almost 50 years ago in Dames at Sea.
