Jim Steinman did a Batman musical that never got off the ground, but it was more based on the first Tim Burton movie. A couple songs made it onto MeatLoaf's Bat Out of Hell III album.

In response to your question about Archie, I do seem to remember hearing one announced, but I'm not sure if it ever happened.
