Maggie and Jiggs briefly ran in BRINGING UP FATHER in 1925; THE KATZENJAMMER KIDS had a musical around 1920, but it didn't reach Broadway. There were a bunch of flops that didn't run three weeks in the early years of the century, all based on comics.. The only one I recall off the top of my head was 1908's FLUFFY RUFFLES, about a sweet, ditzy gal. FLUFFY's memorable for two reasons: an early score by Kern and a great show tune title, "There's Something Rather Odd About Augustus." One of my fave titles, ever! Laura

THE KATZENJAMMER KIDS was earlier than T thought--1900, eight performances at the 3rd Avenue Theatre. Written, directed, produced and starring Edwrd Blondell. 1902 saw brief runs from HAPPY HOOLIGAN and ALPHONSE AND GASTON, with an equally short appearance from MICKEY FINN in the following year.
