| I mean, can 2 shows share the BEST PLAY/MUSICAL prize? Could actors also get the same number of votes in their categories? What are the tie-breakers? Do they do a re-vote? | |

| No, just T-shirts, Tote bags and Keyrings | |

| There have been several ties in Tony history. Twice there have been ties for best actress in a musical — 1962 and 1968. Also ties for best featured or supporting actor in a musical in 1959, and for best score in 1993. Perhaps a few others not immediately coming to mind. You can look up those years at the link for more detail. | |

| Not that it really means anything, but it's interesting to note in a year with a very hotly contested Best Actress in a Musical race, that there have been three ties in that category. No other category has had more than one tie. | |

| A few years ago, Montego Glover (''Memphis'') and Catherine Zeta-Jones (''A Little Night Music'') tied for Best Actress in a Musical at the Outer Critics Circle Awards. And then they tied AGAIN at the Drama Desk Awards. I don't know what the odds were for that to happen, but I doubt that's ever happened since (or before). Zeta-Jones won Best Actress in a Musical outright at the Tonys, but I still think it should've gone to Glover. I don't believe there's ever been a Tony tie for Best Actor in a Musical, but I would've welcomed one between Steve Kazee (''Once'') and Jeremy Jordan (''Newsies''). | |

| That's certainly more ties than any other major awards show, right? Oscars, Emmys, Globes etc. I'd love to see another tie again. It can be a thrilling moment. Didn't realize Spiderwoman and Who's Tommy had tied for Best Score. How much of The Who's Tommy score was written especially for the theatre? | |

| Like Designers can only vote in the Best Design Category; only acTORs for acTORS, and actRESSES for the femme parts? SO is it only producers for Best in Show awards?? No Best Catering awards? LOL!! | |

| No, that's how the Oscars do it. For the Tonys all voters can vote in all categories. | |

| I thought that all members of the Academy vote for the Oscars. It's for the nominations that actors vote for actors, directors for directors, editors for editors, etc., etc., etc. (Saw King and I yesterday.) | |

| It's the Emmys that have categorized voting all the way through. In the Oscars, it's categorized nominating, then everyone votes for everything for the awards (with some exceptions, like the shorts, where you have to attend Academy screenings to vote). | |

| correct although in the alternate universe that is Oscar voting, it's called best picture. A picture is, of course, worth a thousand words... | |

| Yes, specific groups nominate at the Oscars (actors for actors, film editors for film editors, etc.), but the general Academy membership now is eligible to vote on everything. The Academy once held special screenings or panels to judge the more specialized categories, but now screeners are sent to everyone. | |

| There are currently about 850 Tony voters. There were not always that many though which could be the reason for the greater number of ties in the earlier years of the awards. For comparison, the Oscars have had 5 true ties plus what was then considered a tie when Frederic March received 1 more vote than Wallace Beery for Best Actor in 1932. | |

| I Believe My Own Eyes, a second act number for Captain & Mrs Walker. This win pre-dates the Tony rules requiring 50% or so new material for a score to be considered for award purposes. | |
