The King and I SNL Sketch... from many years ago

Posted by: PatrickHSF 01:51 pm EDT 05/07/15

With both The King and I and Zorba on Broadway now, I was reminded of the Phil Hartman sketch from Saturday Night Live. Both shows are referenced in the piece. Phil is playing the King, and the interviewer (Jan Hooks) continually brings up Yul Brynner and the challenge of playing a role made famous by such an iconic actor, eventually driving Phil over the edge.

I can’t find an NBC-sponsored video of the skit online, but did find a transcript. Very funny, especially if you read it in the voice of Phil, Jan and Nora Dunn who played Phil’s wife.

(Apologies if the link is not appropriate for ATC.)

Link Ross Treadway's "Workmanlike" Performance :)
