By the time it got to Chicago, the scenery was starting to look a little threadbare, but it was still a big and attractive production. Judy Kaye and Imogene Coca were as good as they were on Broadway, which is to say fantastic. Rock Hudson seemed very much out of his depth. His singing was not at all equal to the score, and he seemed a bit embarrassed to be up there. I imagine he might have been good in some musical roles, but he didn't have the flamboyance or singing chops for Oscar Jaffe. It was fun to see a big movie star on stage, though.
