Idina Menzel is kicking off the If/Then tour

According to her website, she will launch the tour and play the first 7 cities.

I give her a lot of credit, most stars don't understand the value of touring with the show.

I don't know if I want to see it in such a big theater as the Pantages, but I am always curious to see a new musical. I rented the CD once and didn't care for/respond to most of the score so I'm still very much on the fence.

I didn't you were from SoCal too, Chazwaza. Hello, neighbor! I never miss an opportunity to visit the Pantages. It is cavernous but it's so gorgeous that I nearly gasp anytime I enter that lobby.

Yeah but I know it so well that I know which seats to avoid. Besides, my parents had their first date there in 1963 when he took her to see the film version of Bye Bye, Birdie, so in addition to being the most beautiful theater I've ever seen,, it has sentimental value for me. :)

I loved ''If/Then,'' so I'm thrilled that Idina is gonna launch the tour. Coming on the heels of the news that Tony Yazbeck is doing the tour of ''On the Town,'' I was wondering: Which other recent Tony nominees (or Tony winners) have done the national tours of their shows? Alice Ripley (''Next to Normal'') comes to mind. Others?

Somebody did report (on the West Coast board?) that she was doing the tour, but I thought she had said she wasn't. Those first 7 will sell very well.

As I saw the tryout at the National Theatre, in Washington, DC, I'm going to be interesting in noting what changed between DC and Broadway (and, perhaps, what might change for the tour). I think that assessing those changes will be easier with Ms. Menzel in the leading role.
