I don't think critics should have to consider "fairness" as a criterion when singling out the performances they most enjoyed. And if that means that Cush Jumbo gets a bit of extra "spotlight" from the Times, I'm really okay with that.

Maybe ... but why, then, doesn't he do a whole column on notable shows that aren't eligible for Tonys (or does he?)?

You mean, why doesn't he take steps to assuage a tiny number of Internet posters who don't like how he has chosen to organize his own column? Hmmm, I wonder... :-D

No, I meant - (And, yes, it's a rhetorical question. He can write about what he wants to write about), but it sounds like he's assuaging a lot of people by writing a "should, will" column about the Tonys. If he thinks better shows aren't eligible, why not write more about them?
