Groff was unavailable to move with the show to Broadway.

As has been noted below, he wasn't able to extend in the park because of his commitment to the feature film TAKING WOODSTOCK later that summer.

He came back to New York that fall and did PRAYER FOR MY ENEMY at Playwrights Horizons but then did back to back movies in the spring (TWELVE THIRTY and THE CONSPIRATOR) when HAIR moved to Broadway.
