Cutting Ball Theater continues its 16th season, devoted to the theme of “Injustice,” with the World Premiere of MOUNT MISERY by Andrew Saito, directed by Cutting Ball Artistic Director Rob Melrose. Cutting Ball’s resident playwright Andrew Saito examines the United States’ inconsistent progress on issues of power and race through the colliding histories of two prominent American figures on one shared tract of land. On a plantation in a small Maryland town, a teenaged slave named Frederick Douglass once fought and triumphed against an overseer named Edward Covey. The moment would permanently alter the course of Douglass’ life, freeing him from fear and building a new sense of agency. In 2003, Covey’s home, “Mount Misery,” was purchased by former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld for $1.5 million. In MOUNT MISERY, Saito imagines Rumsfeld and Douglass’ interactions across time. Featuring David Sinaiko, Giovanni Adams, Lorri Holt, and Geoffrey Nolan.MOUNT MISERY was commissioned by Cutting Ball and developed as part of the 2014 edition of RISK IS THIS… The Cutting Ball New Experimental Plays Festival; the production runs concurrently with the 2015 RISK IS THIS Festival in celebration of Cutting Ball’s new play development program.MOUNT MISERY Special Events – for more information visit cuttingball.com Gala Opening – Friday, May 15, 8pm, $50 tickets May 8– $10 preview May 10 – Pre-show Tea – 4pm (141 Taylor Street) Happy Hour Fridays – meet and mingle 7-8pm Preshow Talks (5 minutes) – before every showFriday talk back series with the artists – post-performance talks following every Friday performanceSunday talk back series “Examining Injustice” – themed post-performance talks led by Bay Area thought leaders and Associate Producer Rem Myers following every Sunday performance DATES: Previews: May 8, 9 at 8pm; May 10, 5pm Opens: May 14 (Press opening: May 14; Gala opening: May 15) Closes: June 7, 2015 All performances Thursday at 7:30, Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2 and 8pm, and Sunday at 5pm WHERE: The Cutting Ball Theater in residence at EXIT on Taylor, 277 Taylor St., San Francisco TICKETS: For season membership, single tickets ($10-50), and more information, the public may visit cuttingball.com or call 415-525-1205; group discounts available. 42nd Street Moon, San Francisco’s only resident professional musical theatre company, presents WHERE’S CHARLEY?, Frank Loesser and George Abbott's lively musical adaptation of Brandon Thomas's uproarious 1892 farce Charley's Aunt. JEFFREY BRIAN ADAMS May 13

You may recognize Jeffrey Brian Adams from his recent performances as Prince Charming in Into the Woods (TBA and BATCC Award nominations) and Chuck Baxter in Promises, Promises , both at SF Playhouse. Having grown up in San Jose and graduated from the Theatre Arts program at Santa Clara University, Adams recently returned to the Bay Area after earning his Master’s Degree from the New School for Drama in New York City. Local critics have called him “... an emerging local star. He’s as good as anyone on stage in New York.” For his Feinstein’s at the Nikko debut, Jeffrey will use his experiences from coast to coast to present an evening of songs and stories about those moments in life when “Fate Steps In.”

CONNIE CHAMPAGNE May 14

Ms. Champagne returns to Feinstein’s at the Nikko in Beyond the Rainbow which will include Garland’s greatest hits along with Champagne’s take on contemporary songs that Garland never had the chance to sing. Champagne is not a Garland impersonator, but rather an actress that has repeatedly played the role in various incarnations to the delight of both audiences and critics. The New York Times hailed “Ms. Champagne’s Judy Garland is a masterpiece of subtlety and homage.”

MARILYN MAYE May 15 - 16

In a word – “Legendary.” Marilyn Maye is an award-winning singer, actress, director, educator and musical treasure. She was a guest on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson 76 times, which is the record for a singer. After one such show-stopping appearance Mr. Carson looked into the camera at his audience of millions and said, “And that, young singers, is the way it’s done.” The Smithsonian Institution included her RCA recording of “Too Late Now” on their list of the 110 Best American Compositions of the Twentieth Century, assuring her place in popular music history. She has recorded seven albums and her singles “Guess Who I Saw Today” and “Take Five” have been hailed as “timeless” by jazz critics. Maye appears often at clubs and theatres in Manhattan to the delight of sold-out audiences and Feinstein’s at The Nikko is honored to welcome her to San Francisco.

STORM LARGE MAY 28—30

After playing to sold out crowds last October, Storm Large of Pink Martini fame returns to Feinstein’s at the Nikko with her new show Taken By Storm. SPENCER DAY JUNE 5 – 6

He is a perennial favorite in the Bay Area because of his original songs that blend compelling melodies, smart lyrics and lush arrangements. For his recent album Daybreak , debuting at #1 on the iTunes Jazz Chart, Day crafted five new works that blend seamlessly with his interpretations of cover tunes such as “Groovin,” “A World Without Love” and “Never My Love” in Spencer’s trademark honey baritone voice. In Lovefool, he’ll also include some newer hits made famous by The Cardigans and Michael Jackson and more. The result will be an evening infused with his skilled storytelling that’s all about love gone right, love gone wrong and love fit for a song
.

JEREMY JORDAN JUNE 11 – 14

Jeremy Jordan returns to Feinstein’s at the Nikko with the debut of an all-new show after a sold-out run last year. Since then, he as appeared on screen with Anna Kendrick in the film adaptation of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years and starred as Peter Pan author J.M.
