I saw the show tonight and I have to say that I was moved by both John Turturro and Zoe Wanamaker. Marin Mazzie who sounded fantastic was the one who was really miscast in my opinion. Santino Fantana sounded great but seemed a little too stiff.
I saw the original production and I don't remember all the coughing. I remember being kind of surprised that Hortense was on her death bed.
