"Shaddup and Go Back Ta Yah Seat!"

Posted by: Clancy 05:04 pm EDT 09/26/15

Touring company of Pippin last night in Portland. Keller Auditorium.
The trapezes were broken or at least unstable enough that the performers, including Priscilla Lopez as Bertha, were not able to use them.
At intermission, having told my family how amazing the acrobatics in 'No Time at All' were, I asked to see the house manager.
The answer from the three people to whom I talked was somewhere between "tough" and "shut-up and go back to your seat."
Yes, it's a tour.
And what I was after were seats for later in the run (it's not at all full) when hopefully the technical issues would have been addressed.
I know Spiderman is not a perfect analogy but two times when I saw that that the acrobatics malfunctioned we were offered seats to future performances.
So, question: Wrong?
Or should I "Shaddup and Go Back Ta Yah Seat?"

You were really told "shut up" by a theater employee? I've seen curt house staff but can't recall any actually telling people to shut up.

Curious how they handled Berthe's big number. Did they skip the acrobatic part altogether or did she do some other form of acrobatics with the Player?

Sadly, yes. Literally told to shut up and go back to my seat. I received a cursory apology email yesterday. "We value your business" etc. etc.

Bertha's big number consisted of her sitting next to Pippin and singing to him. No acrobatics. And the projected lyrics were not in sync -- I suspect because there should have been pauses for her acrobatic feats. The lyrics were 60 to 180 seconds ahead of what was actually happening.

We'll chalk it up to the comically bad US Bank Broadway series.

I think you're completely justified--and were treated like garbage. I'd put my gripes in writing and take it to higher authorities involved with the tour.
