The 2015 New Threads writers are Sevan Kaloustian Greene, Jonas Hassen Khemiri, Saïd Sayrafiezadeh, Saadallah Wannous, and Amir Nazir Zuabi. We invite you to laugh, cry, and think alongside these beautiful stories from and about the Middle East! Each play is teeming with unexpected humor, surprising characters, and important questions about the world we live in today. Join the creative process of a new play and discover brilliant gems never before seen in the Bay Area. The five staged readings will take place Wednesday evenings at 8pm beginning November 4. The first three readings (November 4, 11, 18) are at Brava Theater Center Studio (2781 24th Street, San Francisco), and the last two readings (December 2, 9) are at the Thick House (1695 18th Street, San Francisco). Audiences will have an opportunity to ask questions and engage the director and cast in conversation after each reading. All performances are FREE. Reservations are recommended! More information and to RSVP, please visit goldenthread.org. The series launches on November 4 with Oh My Sweet Land, a searing solo show by Haifa-based Palestinian writer Amir Nazir Zuabi. The play was created in collaboration with actress Corinne Jaber based on interviews with Syrian refugees in Jordan. Also featured is the Bay Area debut of Whiting Award–winning novelist and playwright Saïd Sayrafiezadeh, who hilariously skewers his Iranian-Jewish-American identity in the dark comedy Autobiography of a Terrorist performing on November 11. The series closes on December 9 with a playful presentation featuring live music of the classic political satire The King is the King by Syrian master playwright and famed agitator Saadallah Wannous. Golden Thread Productions, founded in 1996, is the first American theatre company focused on the Middle East. We produce passionate and provocative plays from and about the Middle East that celebrate the multiplicity of its perspectives and identities. Every play serves as an invitation to discover unexpected connections and engage in deeply moving conversations that last well beyond the life of the play. We are a developmental catalyst and vibrant artistic home to artists at various stages of their careers. We bring the Middle East to the American stage, creating treasured cultural experiences for audiences of all ages and backgrounds. goldenthread.org Golden Thread thanks Brava Theater Center for supporting the first three reading series in this year’s New Threads | |
