Participants in the Home Theater Forum website have described many horror stories about these theatrical screenings of the restored MY FAIR LADY. They have devised an imaginary character named Tammy, whose main job is to sell candy but has also unfortunately replaced the professional projectionist that cinemas used to employ. Tammy seems baffled when aiming the digital equivalent of a 70mm image to fill a screen, or by this strange concept called "intermission". Robert A. Harris, whose preservation efforts have saved LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, VERTIGO, and SPARTACUS as well as MY FAIR LADY described it accurately: "Unfortunately, with the exception of certain known, high quality venues, going to the cinema these days has gotten quite like pulling off a highway on a long trip, to the only spot where one might safely spend the night. Once you enter the parking area, under the big signs reading " otel," and "Vac ncy," you never know what's next." Thankfully, the restored MY FAIR LADY is released on Blu-Ray tomorrow, so all may enjoy the astonishing efforts that have been put into this restoration.
