Or that his mother wasn't a prostitute (well they use "whore" in the show which is a more subjective term, but the implication of prostitution is strong in the show). I think my biggest problem with the show (which in general I love) is the complete mess they make out of the Election of 1800.

Well...that description is a deliberately insulting one derived from John Adams; but I recall that even Chernow grants that by 18th Century 'genteel' standards the label may have fit.
