Hamilton curtain call - King George (possible spoiler)

Posted by: mrl60 09:48 pm EDT 10/28/15

I saw this afternoon's matinee performance of Hamilton. I was surprised that Andrew Rannells did not join the cast for the curtain call. I'm curious if that has been the case at the performances of the other two actors who played that role. I'm guessing yes, because of the way the final scene ended, with the rest of the cast already assembled onstage.

More importantly. how was Rannells? I saw Groff and he was amazing. What did you and the rest of the audience think of Rannells? Thanks.

I saw both Groffy and Rannells. It was Andrew's first performance so he was pretty much copying what Groffy was doing except his legendary walk and at the end of "What Comes Next." I was a bit worried about his vocal skill (not as a great singer as Groffy) but he was fine. He is taller than Groffy and he looked splendid in the King's costume.

Of course the audience ate him up as the role is just so juicy.

BTW both Groff nor Andrew did not sing "Everybody!" part as the cast recording. It's more like an order/command. I wonder when it was changed? Also in "I know him" Andrew sang "is that true" rather than "Zat true."

The actor playing George joins the ensemble for the last half of Act 2; so he was up there, just uncrowned.

not the case. Maybe he missed the cue or had an appointment.

I haven't seen it w/Rannells yet, but the actors who play King George come out for the curtain call wearing the same white uniform as the rest of the cast, so you may not have realized he was there.

If that's the case, then you're right, I probably missed him. I was expecting him to be in the King's costume - plus we were in the $89 seats, so the actor's faces are not as recognizable from up there. Thanks!

If you should have the chance to see it again (or see photos of the curtain call), he would be standing on Okieriete Onaodowan's right (left, from audience's POV).

Yeah, whoever is doing the part changes and is in The Reynolds Pamphlet as well, maybe other songs.
