Incident at Vichy

Posted by: Jfs414 11:47 pm EDT 10/28/15

Caught this tonight and left the theatre in awe. How has this Miller play escaped me all these years. This is a first rate production of a first rate play. There is not a weak link the outstanding cast of 17. It is deftly directed by Michael Wilson. I heard many audience members around me exclaim at the end that they thought this was one of Miller's best plays and they had never seen it/heard of it. This is a must see production of a rarely performed play. Don't miss out!

As someone who really loved the current revival of View from The Bridge, I'll go on record and say that I think this is a superior production and a superior play. See it before it's completely sold it.

The original or the revised? The revised includes a serious escape attempt, the original does not.
I agree, it is an excellent play and rather timely considering the tenor of some current U.S. politicians.

Based on that information, it is the revised version.

Signature Theater is pretty good at posting the running time on their web site - it says 90 minutes with no intermission. (They probably got tired of people like me calling them all the time for the running time for each of their shows.)

I can't imagine anyone ever getting tired of you asking about running times, summertheater.

I read this play many years ago when in college. I've always been enthralled with the writing and yet, after 40 years, this will be the first live production I will see. I'm so happy someone has finally done a full scale revival.

My first-ever experience of the play was the 2009 Off-Broadway production by The Actors Company Theatre (TACT). It was an excellent production, and I too was bowled over by the quality of the play itself. I agree it's one of Miller's best, and I can only guess that it's not produced more frequently for two reasons: (1) the very large, all-male cast, and (2) the harrowing subject matter of the Holocaust.

I've been looking forward to this for some time. I'm lucky enough to remember a TV version that played on PBS more than forty years ago, starring Rene Auberjonois and Harris Yulin - directed, I learn from imdb, by Stacy Keach. (And released on DVD by the Broadway Theatre Archive.)
