| NY Post columnist Riedel says that The Humans is moving into the Helen Hayes. Is Dames at Sea closing? It's such a fun show; I had hoped it would run - | |

| Anyone want to look in your crystal ball and predict if it'll make it through December? I have tickets for Dec. 20th. Hope it hangs on... | |

| I wish that DAMES AT SEA could make money Off Broadway, say at the cursed Little Shubert, (or whatever it's called now) This is such a fun and clever show, but I think that for the prices of Broadway tickets, the theatre goer wants a bigger bang for the buck. I'm telling everyone to go see it, but most of my friends are in jail...for trying to sneak in at intermission to see "HAM-ill-TON". | |

| I had to look it up because I missed the notice of the name change back in July. | |

| The closing hasn't been announced, but based on the grosses the odds of it surviving the winter are slim to none. | |

| Very sad, if true. It's a wonderful production. I adored it, and at the performance I attended, it seemed that the audience adored it as well -- even after negative reviews from some of the critics. I think that speaks to what a thoroughly delightful show it is. | |

| Lack of audiences do. There are plenty of examples of shows with great reviews that still closed because word of mouth wasnt getting ticket sales. | |

| So true. I saw DAMES AT SEA on Friday night, 10/30. I was surprised and saddened by how empty the house was. The orchestra couldn't have been more than 30% full. The Mezz was even less full. In 36 years of regular theater going, I have never seen a house this empty. I felt bad for the performers who were clearly giving it their all. The show was a lot of fun with some great performances and fantastic tap dancing. My TDF ticket was in the 4th row of the orchestra, house right. | |

| I agree, but that's not what I meant. Several times, I have experienced or heard of situations where, after negative reviews, the audience response to a show is dampened as compared to the response before the reviews. That definitely was not the cast at the Wednesday evening performance of DAMES AT SEA; there was hearty laughter and very enthusiastic applause throughout, including one or two examples of applause in the middle of numbers. | |

| In recent months,I've been through this same experience three times--audiences loving musicals that the critics, and even many here, didn't--and, yes, it's very sad that the economics dictate early closings. For the record, the three--and all wonderful productions--were THE LAST SHIP, THE VISIT and AMAZING GRACE. | |

| I admired "Last Ship" and "The Visit," the scores of both shows are keepers. And they were new, they had a great shot. I don't quite think this "Dames," a mini-show moved into a B'way house, reflects the same risk. I could be wrong. To me, this show had little chance of attracting a wide audience, its premise and homage/parody elements very tied to another era. I couldn't figure out the target demo. It has nothing to do with the quality here. It's just a (small) piece of musical theater that seemed an odd idea for such affectionate -- and expensive -- revisiting. I don't think it would sell even off-B'way. | |

| Not the best examples, since two out of the three ran longer than financial sense dictated. | |

| But that makes sense. Critics (and theatre junkies) see everything; but most other people go to shows they think they will like. So it's not much of a stretch when they do like it. If they don't exist in large enough numbers, the shows close. | |
