Lack of audiences do. There are plenty of examples of shows with great reviews that still closed because word of mouth wasnt getting ticket sales.

So true. I saw DAMES AT SEA on Friday night, 10/30. I was surprised and saddened by how empty the house was. The orchestra couldn't have been more than 30% full. The Mezz was even less full. In 36 years of regular theater going, I have never seen a house this empty. I felt bad for the performers who were clearly giving it their all.

The show was a lot of fun with some great performances and fantastic tap dancing.

My TDF ticket was in the 4th row of the orchestra, house right.

I agree, but that's not what I meant. Several times, I have experienced or heard of situations where, after negative reviews, the audience response to a show is dampened as compared to the response before the reviews. That definitely was not the cast at the Wednesday evening performance of DAMES AT SEA; there was hearty laughter and very enthusiastic applause throughout, including one or two examples of applause in the middle of numbers.
