I admired "Last Ship" and "The Visit," the scores of both shows are keepers. And they were new, they had a great shot. I don't quite think this "Dames," a mini-show moved into a B'way house, reflects the same risk. I could be wrong. To me, this show had little chance of attracting a wide audience, its premise and homage/parody elements very tied to another era. I couldn't figure out the target demo. It has nothing to do with the quality here. It's just a (small) piece of musical theater that seemed an odd idea for such affectionate -- and expensive -- revisiting. I don't think it would sell even off-B'way.
