I'm confused by what seems a contradiction. How can it be a money machine (and clearly it is--so far, at least) if, as you say, Pacino is a draw to a very small number of people these days? What does that mean?

It means...a number enough to fill seats for what is a short run.

Many producers of limits runs would be thrilled to have the grosses "China Doll" has experienced so far. I think you are misrepsentng Paicino's draw.
