  • Last week, ended Sunday, November 1, Broadway grosses totaled $22,819,831 for 33 shows.

In the prior week, ended October 25, Broadway grosses totaled $27,391,971 for 34 shows.

In the comparable week last year, grosses for 34 shows totaled $23,464,674.

  • New York Mets in the World Series at home at Citi Field, Halloween Parade, trick-or-treat, and the New York City Marathon all distracted attention to dampen grosses last week. 22 of 33 shows saw six-figure drops from the prior week. [See chart linked below for details.]

  • China Doll may be having artistic problems, but not at the box office. Last week, for 7 previews, the Al Pacino/David Mamet vehicle grossed $1,215,881 at 110.6% of potential gross (reflecting premium tickets). The average ticket price was the highest on Broadway at $163.80 which beat out Hamilton ($157.70). Standing room was sold for a 100.5% occupancy rate. That SR costs $67, incidentally.

  • On the other hand, Misery, starring Bruce Willis and Laurie Metcalf, is doing well, but not holding up quite as well as its first 4 previews in the prior week suggested it might. Last week, the gross was $906,961 for a full week of 8 previews. That’s 75.7% of gross potential at a healthy $117.06 average ticket. 82% of the seats were occupied (paid and comp) at the Broadhurst.
