'Allegiance' steps up to the plate

The name of the new baseball song in ''Allegiance'' is ''Get in the Game,'' and baseball was a vital part of life in the camps.

In fact, Japanese-Americans have been playing for more than a century; they had their own teams and played Pacific Coast clubs and all-stars from the Negro Leagues, and shared baseball diamonds with Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson and Satchel Paige.

Al Beir, a batboy for Ruth and Gehrig, said: ''Pound for pound, the Nisei players were as good as the Major Leaguers. They ate, thought and slept the game”.''

''Diamonds in the Rough'' was the name of a traveling exhibit that was featured at Cooperstown, and it's the name of a 2000 documentary about the legacy of Japanese-Americans in the sport, narrated by Pat Morita. (Part of it's on YouTube.)

I'm sappy enough that I bought right into it. It struck me as a little odd at first but that evaporated quickly

It might be based on truth - but it simply doesn't work in the show -- it stopped everything cold last friday when I saw it -- the style of dance, song, and presentation suddenly changes, and not for the better. It needs to be cut.

I agree. Thought it might be cut by now. They could have a brief scene in its place. it was jarring.
