That's really a big part of my point above: for the last couple of generations, much of the population has pigeonholed musical theatre in much the same way many musical theatre fans have pigeonholed rap (or, more generally, "rock" or "pop"). What is significant (in both directions) is when something comes along that results in some cross-fertilization. Hamilton does both.
