I'm not defending the critic but I can tell you from experience that there's plenty of better paid critics who use their position as leverage for getting dates. Who cares what routine someone uses to get laid. He's not an elected official for goodness sake.

It is low hanging fruit and a representative of "arts ethics" proves not only their own ethics but the substance of any nonprofit initiative they are involved with by the targets they choose. Little risk is taken by bullying the powerless. Sherman might have addressed the problem to the much more powerful Huffington Post and kept a fellow artist (yes, critics are artists) anonymous.
