I think this is a very ahistorical take on Yiddish theater. Yiddish theater like Jewish culture in general after the Haskalah wasn't sui generis, it was engaged with the great literary non-Jewish movements of the time. GOD OF VENGEANCE has as much to do with Emile Zola and Naturalism as it does with Hassidism and Hassidic culture.

I'm not sure what you're reacting to - the article says nothing which contradicts you.
