|Oddone, that sounds pretty solid. ''Dear Evan Hansen'' is ineligible. It got 6 Outer Critics nominations last year, winning for 2 of them: Off-Broadway Musical and Best Book. And it got 3 Drama Desk nominations: Supporting Actress (Rachel Bay Jones), Projections and Lyrics (which Benj Pasek and Justin Paul won). However, the Drama Desk did not nominate ''Dear Evan Hansen'' for Best Musical, Direction, Score or Best Actor (Ben Platt).
Combine the latter with Platt's Outer Critics' loss to Danny Burstein, and that means someone else will get to win Best Actor at OCC and Drama Desk. And that's an opening for other Best Actor candidates, like Christian Borle, Jon Jon Briones, Corey Cott, Josh Groban, Andy Karl, Derek Klena, etc.
I can't find any record of the Outer Critics ever nominating ''Natasha, Pierre'' before, so they didn't consider it or snubbed it in the past. I don't see why they couldn't consider it now, though I don't believe the Outer Critics voters were invited to see the Broadway production.
Actually, the Drama Desk record on ''Natasha, Pierre'' is clearer. It got 5 Drama Desk nominations in 2013 for the Kazino production: Musical, Music, Lyrics, Direction and Costumes. It lost them all, but I doubt they'll get to be eligible again in those categories. If the Drama Desk's past rulings are any indication, however, the show's newer elements - like Josh Groban, Denee Benton, scenic design (for the Imperial) - would be eligible.
