"Compare My Fair Lady recordings. The OBC was only recorded in mono. The London cast was recorded so they could have a Stereo version. I had both and always preferred the OBC. The only way I can put is that with the London cast you can hear the acting. And I mean that in a bad way. Interesting to listen to but for a listening experience I prefer the freshness of the OBC. Just beautiful music, wonderfully sung (or speak sing in Harrison's case)."
Actually, I almost offered that specific example. Again, more "settled-into" performances are not necessarily better than fresher ones. I'm sure sometimes they are, but sometimes they are not.
