Thank you for the thought that you put into your response to my initial post. I appreciate it. You are kinder and more charitable than I in many ways. I feel the slights of the lack of opportunity and closed doors because I work with many playwrights and theatre artists who just don't get a chance because they lack the celebrity or the right kinds of credentials (MFAs from elite institutions). I think that causes a hollowing out of the theatre and a narrowing of voices to represent all facets of an experience. If they won't let you through the door, why would you want to be a part of it? And yes, you are right about "Joan" not being amateurish in the way "Light Years" is. I can appreciate the complexity that programming a season requires and perhaps give more consideration to Eustis, Timbers, Byrne, et al than I appear to. I do think the Public has made a lot of mistakes in the past several years - their ticket distribution for subscribers is a disaster - that Eustis should be getting some flak on from board members, but that is me. I would like the theatre to be more egalitarian of a place than it is.
