"I share your confusion when crappy work gets produced and good work languishes. But please communicate to your peers that, at the end of the day, the MFA doesn't mean as much as they might think it does, at least at the theaters I've worked at."

I personally don't think and wouldn't suggest than an MFA makes much difference, but I DO think there have been many alarming cases, especially in recent years, where major NY theater companies have produced shockingly bad plays by certain playwrights -- apparently because each of those playwrights has a well established name and/or history with the theater, rather than based on the quality of the works themselves). As I've said before, I think this is tremendously counterproductive and does no favors to anyone, and I dearly wish it would stop.
