That is a really interesting perspective and I wonder if your waiter's issue is living in a small town that is famous for being the home of two well-known institutions of higher learning, without ever having gone to school himself. Besides that fact that your town must have a huge transient population, which has got to make dating a challenge for the locals, I have often found that differences in educational experience (some might call it life experience) matter more than just about anything else when people look around at those whom they're interested in dating. Is someone who's pursuing a degree in higher education going to necessarily be interested in someone who's "just" a waiter? I don't know. I'm not saying that it's right or that this person isn't worthy of finding someone, but I bet this is more of an issue in a town like yours than in most small towns.
