And I think Close can do comedy--she was excellent in that cameo in In and Out when she was playing herself giving the Oscar to Matt Dillon. I still remember some of the titles of the films, "Steven Seagal in Snowball's Chance in Hell" among others, and her very dry wit in saying them with utmost seriousness. Also, it's the ability to project energy to a large audience that matters--which her Norma does and then some. And I remember how touching it was when she presented the Honorary Oscar to Deborah Kerr--she spoke the script written to honor Kerr with elegance and great panache. I wish Close had won for Albert Nobbs (as well as for Dangerous Liaisons and perhaps some others).
