In the September 1935 preBroadway run in Philadelphia, Fontanne tore cartlige in her knee in one of the fight scenes. She had it wrapped, but continued to perform. She didn't miss a show, and the NY opening went as scheduled. The knee was put in a cast, prompting a Detroit critic to quip his headline, "Fontanne Performs With Knee in Cast," did not refer to a new member of the company. She was wheeled from dressing room to stage each night, where she chased Bianca, smacked four dwarfs, kicked people, cracked a lute on Hortensio, and had all number of battles with Petruchio. While wearing elaborate gowns weighing up to 60 lbs.

Laura, still stuck in 1935, as you can see. :)
