I was at the show tonight and reading the reviews I am realizing how much physical movement Andy Karl has probably had to cut. Apart from the very visible knee brace that one sees when he is getting out of bed every morning (and to which he blatantly refers in one scene), I didn't notice much in the way of limping or wincing. But neither did he do anything that was remarkably energetic or athletic, and having seen his brilliant schtick in ON THE 20TH CENTURY, I know what he is capable of.
The most deft thing I noticed tonight was the constant getting into bed, often in the dark, and the number of times he fell to his knees.
I do hope that he recovers quickly and doesn't injure himself any more by going back in too early.
And I wonder how long until someone does a mockup poster of another new Broadway musical, with a picture of a black leg brace and the words "DEAR ANDY KARL" in blue.
