I think White is overstating the case in this article. The trailer reminded me of how garish and bloated the movie seemed even in its heyday, if it ever had a heyday. The casting seems off, and it all just seems without charm and relevance. The studios really did loose their knack for making large scale musicals. I can turn on the tv and find a showing of "Meet Me in St. Louis" or "In the Good Old Summertime" and still be engaged and surprised, but "Hello Dolly" makes me switch channels.
