|This isn't snark.
Snark is the 'hate tweeting' that happens during the live TV musicals... like what happened during "The Sound of Music -- Live!" Snark is boxing up, looking at people who think themselves important, and could use a good dressing down.
That's not what's happening here.
The emotions that these videos elicit aren't ones of laughing AT someone. It's much warmer, more self-effacing than that. We're laughing with these videos, because we know that this was totally us back in the day. It's a laughter of recognition, knowing that we've been there. And our junior high musicals were probably just as endearingly unprofessional as these kids' are. They're hilarious because we see ourselves within.
Read the YouTube comments -- especially on the video I'll post below -- and you'll see what I mean. People know that these kids are probably seeing the comments, and by and large, viewers are sending them 'mad props.' Congratulations. We love things like this. Keep going, kids. We love their innocence, the fact that they're doing it for the sheer fun of it.
It's inspiring, really.
I suppose it's funny in the way that the Blaine County Players of "Waiting for Guffman" are. Yes, they're terrible. But we know that this is TOTALLY US.
