I saw Groener with either Joslyn or Plunkett, and you're quite right, Alan. His humanity was effortless. Sorry, it's a long time ago; my mind went from Westenberg to Evans. And I liked them both. (Also saw Groenendaal on a Sunday matinee, I believe; he was also a standby?). It was a show I took so many out of town guests to see back in the day. Full disclosure: I didn't really get it, fully, until about the third time. Then fell in love. For life. This production's Marie took me to a new place with that love, during "Children and Art."*
*No doubt because of my age as much as Ashford's startlingly unsentimental performance.
