Oh, and I one of those who only saw Channing do it the last time on tour. I described the experience as what it must have been like seeing Bernhardt touring at the end of her life. You couldn't hope to get the immediacy of what made her brilliant, but I felt privileged to be able glimpse into what was still there. And I thought she handled the monologue leading into the Parade with exquisite pathos and tenderness, even in 1995. I realize others found it a travesty, but I was in the front balcony, so maybe distance was kinder.
