Uncle Abram:
A new Vanya for the 21st Century

Many are familiar with Uncle Vanya and its themes of love, desire, and fear of a wasted life. Yet with all the wonderfully subliminal comedic and dramatic productions of Uncle Vanya over the past century, none have fused the classic Russian play with America's unique history of race and class.

Uncle Abram, set in the Reconstruction South, integrates elements of both Native and African American heritage in a never before seen version of Chekhov where civil rights, environmental justice, and gender equality make a Vanya ripe for the 21st Century.
