Groundhog Day without Andy Karl

I was a bit trepidatious about seeing this without the Award winning star, but my doubts were alleviated almost immediately. There is lots of video of weather newscaster Phil when you enter the theatre and Andrew Call was in each of them.
The part is a real feast for an actor and the understudy was up to the challenges. The staging and rapid fire scenery design greatly enhance this musical which although entertaining doesn't rise to top of the crop for me. The first act seemed interminable and this is possibly also due to the constant repetition in the the story.
We get the idea. The second act moved must faster and worked better. I was expecting more laughs throughout the evening and had heard some of the music prior so wasn't disappointed that it is merely serviceable.
