| Even those who Do read theater boards seem confused at times. How many conversations have we had concerning "I'm Still Here"? Ha! ;-) I think that a lot of the confusion stems from the monologue beforehand, where she talks about her Follies number. Which would make it seem reasonable that the song she then sings IS that song. But, given the song's timeline, it's clearly not. However, even if the song is in the present and not a recreation of a Follies song, it's still open to some interpretation whether it's diegetic (i.e. actually sung at the party) or book (i.e. just sung thought). And that depends on the direction. |
