I saw the show at Paper Mill somewhat later in October. Maybe that last scene was the same and we're just interpreting it differently or maybe they changed it. It just seems to me that Donny, Julia, and the guys were watching this film or (I thought) newsreel, but then they had a rather casual, friendly conversation about the whole experience, which is not something that would have taken place in a movie theater. They had to have been back in Cleveland since it would have taken weeks or possibly months for such a film to have been made. The bobbysoxer (again I thought) was just a Cleveland kid and her idea of success was that the band was popular locally, which I assumed to mean at weddings and such and not as a big time national band. The whole scene was pretty low key. The Broadway version made the guys out to be a hugely successful, big time band like the very next day after the contest ended -- a conclusion that rang false for me.
