Actually I would feel quite comfortable with someone arguing those points and would listen to their argument with interest and curiosity. And no I would most definitely NOT tell anyone making such arguments that they were being "offensive". A person who argued that FIDDLER was not just a Jewish musical would not be categorized as an anti-Semite. A person who declared that PACIFIC OVERTURES was not just a Japanese musical would not be categorized as a anti-Asian. And a person who declared that THE COLOR PURPLE was not just a black musical would not make them a racist. I would be offended if someone said to me, "I'm not going to see that FIDDLER musical that's all about Jews." Or if someone said, "I don't like THE COLOR PURPLE because I don't like musicals about blacks." THAT would probably be something I deemed offensive.
People who have different opinions than I do are not "offensive" to me. Sorry if it is hard for people to understand that.
